Principle of Water Softening:

- Water softening resin are cation exchange resin with Na+ as the primary ion. The hardness of water is caused by the presence of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions.

- There are various methods for water softening, among which using ion exchange resin proves to be the most effective.

- The process involves exchanging Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions with Na+ ions:

• Ca and Mg in the water are retained by the resin.
• Na from the resin is released into the water.
